Jonathan Hames Hoisl, of Nanuet is graduating with a Bachelor of Science from University of Connecticut during its commencement weekend May 5 and 6.

The following local students performed in the Marist College Dance Ensemble's spring semester showcase, "Dance Your Story."

  • Jaclyn Navarro, of Bardonia
  • Kerry Young, of Nanuet

All students are members of the Marist College Dance Ensemble (MCDE). With more than 250 members, the student-run organization is one of the College's largest and most active groups. The performance consisted of 27 pieces, choreographed completely by students, in a variety of dance genres. This showcase celebrated the 15th anniversary of MCDE.

Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college with an enrollment of 4,200 full-time undergraduate students. Founded in 1929, the College offers 43 major fields of undergraduate study and 12 graduate degree programs. Marist is included in the Princeton Review's 2012 guide to the top colleges and universities in the U.S., The Best 376 Colleges.

Villanova University named the following students to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester.

  • Amanda Mathew, from Nanuet, is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Aaron Palmquist, from Nanuet, is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Villanova University Dean's List recipients are honored by their college's respective dean. To qualify, one must be a matriculated full-time student and earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.

Faculty members at the State University of New York at Geneseo have elected a local student to the college's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most widely known academic honor society.

Samantha Maurer, a Senior from Bardonia was among 80 selected for membership this spring from Geneseo's junior and senior classes.

About 10 percent of the nation's institutions of higher learning have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Geneseo is the only undergraduate SUNY college with a chapter, which was created in 2004.
