Grocery shopping can be a chore — an expensive one at that — but it can also be fun, extreme, even political.
Local or national? Bargain or upscale? Big warehouse or small chain? Bring the kids or have it delivered? Who has the best deals or hard-to-find products? Why do I find coupons anxiety-inducing?
(The biggest question of all is reserved for Danny Wegman himself. Why can't you build a supermarket around here?)
Rockland has never had so many choices. And that's going to increase by one more when the mystery gourmet grocery opens—scheduled for the end of 2013 when the now-closed Nanuet Mall is to be transformed into the Shops at Nanuet.
So we thought we'd ask the smartest folks in the room—you.
What's your favorite local supermarket? Do you always go to the same one or bounce around based on sales or shopping needs? Do you head to Jersey or shop online?

I Shop at Old World Market in West Nyack, A Matter of Health in Nanuet and Organica in Northvale. Our supermarkets need to sell better quality food!

Adams Fairacre Farms: All food, all fresh fruits/vegs, lots of support for local farms and independent food producers. A great store, and always crowded. Better than Trader Joes and Wholefoods - as they are a family market. The nearest store is in Newburgh, and well worth a trip.

Adams is not in Rockland. If you want to include that, then Trader Joe's and Fairway (not to mention Whole Foods) in NJ should be included.

When you rate the supermarkets, you should rate the location, also. For instance, our favorite supermarket is the Pearl River Shop Rite, and definitely NOT the New City one. The West Nyack Shop Rite is in the middle. But they all beat any other supermarket in the area
