Senator Carlucci Announces 2012 Earth Day Poster Contest
Theme of statewide student competition is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”
Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) announced students in kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible to participate in a statewide contest marking Earth Day. Children can submit their entries for the New York State Senate’s Earth Day Poster Contest, which encourages student awareness of environmental issues. The theme of the Earth Day celebration is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”
“Earth Day is about encouraging all of us to continue to abide by that shared notion of protecting our environment,” said Senator Carlucci. “Promoting a clean, healthy, and sustainable planet means more today than ever before.”
The winning posters will be displayed on Senator Carlucci’s website and participants will receive a certificate acknowledging their participation. Schools wishing to participate in this year’s event must submit their entry by March 9 to the Senate’s website atwww.nysenate.gov/earthday2012.
Students should be creative and demonstrate in their project a real commitment to making the environment a better place. As students learn about the importance of recycling, they will learn to be inventive in solving the problem of solid waste.
Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22, the 42nd anniverary of the first Earth Day in 1970.
