Woman, 22, Accused Of Fighting Cops As She's Arrested On Forgery Charges
Clarkstown police officer injured; Brooklyn resident accused of passing forged travelers checks at Palisades Center mall stores.
A 22-year-old Brooklyn woman is accused of using forged travelers checks in stores at Palisades Center mall in West Nyack and then attacking a police officer who tried to arrest her, according to Clarkstown police.
Cherokee Parkins is charged with buying merchandise from Bath and Body Works and the Disney Store using forged travelers checks and is accused of possessing eight more of the forged checks.
Police said Parkins was approached by Clarkstown police about 8 p.m. Thursday at the mall after a complaint from the manager of Bath and Body Works, who gave police a description of a woman who used a forged $100 American Express traveler's check in the store. When a police officer attempted to stop Parkins in the mall, police said the woman spit in the officer's face, punched him in the face and continued to struggle until other officers came to help make the arrest.
Police said Parkins had to be shot with a Taser to be subdued and continued to fight with police officers even while she was in handcuffs on the way to a police car.
A town police officer was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment for cuts and an eye injury as a result of the incident. Police said Parkins was found with eight forged travelers checks after she was arrested.
Parkins was taken to Clarkstown police headquarters in New City for arraignement on charges of second-degree assault, a felony, second-degree forgery, a felony, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, petty larcency, a misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation.
