It’s one word that can make people cringe, angry and sad all at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed. There are plenty of reasons for this – people are told at work that their budgets are being cut, their ideas cannot be funded because they are not in the budget, and in our personal life, our budgets don’t usually quite match up to our desires.

It seems that the warm weather is finally here to stay. the Kentucky Derby seems to have been the signal for warm and sunny weather to move in for good. Backyard parties and entertaining taking place during this weekend is just a small taste of things to come during the summer months. It is important that your yard be as festive and nice looking as possible. We have discussed how to get your yard ready for entertaining on a budget previously, but since our yards get such heavy use during the summer season, it is definitely worth revisiting again.

Let’s look at a few ways to make our yards festive and ready for entertainment without busting our budget.

1) Save money on both waterscapes and hardscapes by doing it yourself, attending DYI seminars at local Home Depot’s, or by watching YouTube clips showing how to make them yourself!

2) Save on your water bill by planting drought tolerant plants, using drip irrigation systems, and buying perennials. These are cost-effective ways to add color without busting your water budget.

3) Use containers – planting containers, using window boxes, and concentrating your fertilizing and watering can maximize the return you get and the ROI for your yard efforts.
