Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is pleased to announce that the agency has been awarded a $2,500 grant from Wells Fargo. The funds will go towards subsidized meals for the Homebound Meal Delivery Program.
This financial support is desperately needed as many seniors face the difficult decision of either purchasing prescriptions or meals, and thus depriving them of adequate nutrition and increasing their risk of related poor health outcomes.
“This grant will help us provide meals for those in need and will truly make a difference for Rockland seniors,” said Barbara Kohlhausen, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland.
Late last year the Meals on Wheels Association of America released a groundbreaking study revealing six million seniors in America face the risk of hunger. The report, entitled, “Senior Hunger in the United States: Differences across States and Rural and Urban Areas” showed that the number of seniors facing the hunger risk jumped an astonishing 20 percent in just one year. Community support such as that from Wells Fargo is integral to combating hunger among seniors.
