Homeless Veteran Living In His Car In Nanuet Sees His New Home!
HOMELESS ROCKLAND VETERAN TOURS FUTURE HOME AT HOMES FOR HEROES
The weather has turned cold and most of us thankfully have a warm house to go to. Not so for the homeless that live among us here in Rockland. Far too many of those homeless are Veterans. Tragically, over 20% of our nation’s homeless are Veterans. Homes for Heroes is getting set to change that for eight brave heroes. Today, one of the homeless Veterans soon to call Homes for Heroes home took a tour of the apartments, which were built only for homeless and disabled Veterans.
Margaret Fitzpatrick, a volunteer decorating the apartments, helped show the Veteran his future home in a quiet neighborhood. The Veteran, who hails from Rockland County, said he was impressed with the apartments. He has been living in his car with his wife and the sudden cold weather has made doing so extremely difficult. Margaret said, “Having volunteered for Homes For Heroes, it was very gratifying to meet one of the Veterans who will be living here and being able to show him his home.” One can only imagine how heartwarming it is to help someone to no longer have to face living in the cold.
