SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES JAFFEE AND ZEBROWSKI FOR NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY RE-ELECTION

The Atlantic (NY) Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Ellen Jaffee (D—97th AD) and Ken Zebrowski (D—96th AD) in the upcoming general election for New York State Assembly on November 4, 2014.

Both candidates are environmental champions who have sponsored important environmental legislation in Albany and been supportive of Rockland County’s local environment.

Since 2007, Jaffee has represented the 97th Assembly District in Rockland County, which includes Orangetown and over half of the Town of Ramapo. Zebrowski was elected to the NYS Assembly in 2007 representing the 96th Assembly District, which includes Clarkstown and Haverstraw and portions of the Town of Ramapo, including the villages of Pomona and most of New Hempstead.

Both candidates were endorsed by Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter in previous elections for these offices, including in 2012. Jaffe and Zebrowski have opposed hydraulic fracturing and supported solar energy, limits on greenhouse gases, and the Indian Point Replacement Plan, among a host of other good environmental legislation.

In addition, they have appeared at numerous hearings, written letters to state agencies, and represented Rockland residents at meetings with the governor’s staff opposing United Water’s proposal to build a desalination plant to take Rockland’s drinking water from the Hudson River.
