ARC To Honor Residence Managers

The ARC of Rockland will honor its 27 home managers with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards at a ceremony Wednesday.

The ARC of Rockland will recognize the work of its 27 managers at this year's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Ceremony 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Congers address.

"Every day, these deserving professionals provide the warmth, enthusiasm and comfort that make each ARC of Rockland house into a home," said ARC Executive Director Karyl Caplan. "A home is far more than rooms and furniture. It is a port in the storm."

According to the ARC release, the home managers managed to make it in despite Hurricane Sandy Oct. 29 and stayed on for days at a time to make sure everything was in order during the storm's aftermath.

Caplan said giving them an award named after King is fitting.

"By the very nature of their careers, our Residence Managers emulate Dr. King every day," Caplan said. "They are responsible for creating both a  home and a home life for the people in their care. This means reaching out to the neighborhood, the town or village and the county to see to it that people are involved in activities and events of the broader Rockland community."

The ARC of Rockland offers assistance for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Housing is just one of the services offered.
