Good Times Ahead At Sunday Street Fair

New City Street Fair takes over South Main Street on Sunday

South Main Street in New City turns into a pedestrian’s paradise on Sunday during this year’s second street fair.  Fun is in the forecast for the area’s youngest residents with pony rides, bounce houses, a petting zoo and carnival rides. More than 100 craft and food vendors, the Rockland Rodders’ classic car display and entertainment will keep adults happy as well.

The street fair will extends along South Main Street from Congers Road to Second Avenue with a possibility of being expanded to Third Street if vendors keep signing up.

Clarkstown’s snowmobile stage will be located in the connected parking lots of strip shopping centers with 100 chairs available for spectators to relax and enjoy the music of the Bel Aires and a DJ plus watch jugglers and magicians perform.

A video game van and arcade game booths will be set up.

The fair begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., rain or shine. The New City Chamber of Commerce is organizing the street fair.

It is the group’s third year of street fairs and the second year the event has been on South Main Street. Heavy rains caused the to end early.

I have to disagree with this. In their defense, the road closures are minimal (it's a small section of Main street and easy to get around so "never ending" is a WEE bit of an exaggeration). The idea is sound and the area needs something like this. On the courthouse grounds was too compressed, too crowded - it is FAR better with the street setup.

Ugly, no, it looks great. Poorly planned - absolutely. Can't wait to see how they deal with plowing after a decent snowfall...

They will deal with it the same way they did last year when it snowed...they will take twice as long using three times the manpower and equipment to get it done. Someone from the town must have been down south and saw this design and thought it looked great...which I think it does, except they don't have to deal with snow removal down south.

I think anyone who makes these decisions never thinks and they are all corrupt.

You people make me laugh! Where do you go when it snows! The day before a predicted snowstorm 99% of the people in this county run to the supermarket to stock up on toilet paper, milk, and bottled water. Makes me laugh every time. I wake up early shovel and go to work.....life goes on. We seem to survive when Nyack closes a huge stretch of road for their street fairs. We survived the closure of the PIP for the ironman race. And we got ripped off on that one by not charging for the use or the overtime for workers to set up the barricades at all on ramps. You can survive the 100 yards of closed road on main street. You can continue down 304 and make the next turn to avoid it. Better yet.... Go to the street fair and walk around,......talk to your neighbors.
