Learn To Cook While Fighting Cancer With Rockland County's Brest Buddies

The Rockland County group Brest Buddies are raising money with a cooking class April 23 at Del Arte Restaurant in Orangeburg.

The Brest Buddies began when Anne Marie Hogan of Pearl River was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.

Her battle with the disease helped draw her together with 11 other women to form the Brest Buddies, who work to raise $1,800 each in sponsorship money to take part in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer Research in New York City each fall.

As a group they have raised over $150,000.

They will hold a cooking class/fundraiser Tuesday April 23 at 7 p.m. at Del Arte Restaurant in Orangeburg. The event features a lesson in Italian cooking and a three course meal with wine, beer and soft drinks. There will also be celebrity guest waiters.

The cost is $55. To make a reservation, call Eileen Murphy at (845) 398-1623 or mail her a check at 10 Isabel Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962. Checks should be made out to either Del Arte Restaurant or Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

This year's New York Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is Oct. 19 and 20. For more information, go to www.avonwalk.org.

As a 30 year survivor of breast cancer, and one who enjoys excellent health, a creative life style, free of any medications, consuming a diet of organic foods, I encourage an attitude that defines, "victorious." I have long abandoned the concept of "fight" ~ struggle, grapple, wrestle to the concept of: triumphant, conquering, vanquishing, winning, champion, a soaring Spirit that brings forth deep healing, awakened faith, a love of SELF, a well being in totality.
