Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham from Congregation Sons of Israel in Nyack has been instrumental in raising temple membership in the past couple of years.
Now, he's bringing his charitable work to TV. He'll be in GSN's The American Bible Challenge Season 2, which premieres on March 21 at 9 p.m. The quiz show is hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy
There are several teams of different religious individuals on the show and Abraham is on the "Rockin Rabbis" team with two others: Rabbi Philip Weintraub of Newburgh and Student Rabbi Eve Eichenholtz of Roslyn Heights.
If they're successful on the gameshow, the charity he and his team chose to benefit is the UJA Federation of New York’s Hurricane Sandy Fund. They could win up to $140,000 for the UJA Federation, which is working to mobilize the resources of their community and offer assistance to rebuild for the future in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
"After Philip’s In-laws’ home and neighborhood were nearly destroyed in Hurricane Sandy as well as Jeffrey and Eve’s respective communities, they have all been passionate about efforts to help those in need following this historic natural disaster," according to the website.
“The three of us have seen firsthand the work that needs to be done to rebuild the communities of the East Coast. By winning the prize money, we could make a huge impact on the lives of those affected by Hurricane Sandy.”
“The American Bible Challenge” is a game show in which three teams of three contestants answer questions based on stories from the Old and New Testament. At the end of the season, the championship team wins more than $100,000. All prize money goes to the winning teams’ charities of choice.
"These three young rabbis teamed up so that they could win money to help victims of Hurricane Sandy,” said Foxworthy. “That kind of inspiration really captures the spirit of this show."
The tournament starts with 18 three-person teams—three teams in each of the first six episodes of the season. The winning teams from each of those six episodes advance to play in two semi-final games. During the final round, one team will be named champions of The American Bible Challenge
