People to People, Rockland County's largest food pantry, is in need of food donations and volunteers. Drop off these items Friday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 121 West Nyack Road in Nanuet:
- granola bars
- peanut butter and jelly
- crackers
- tuna fish
- bottled water
- fruit cups
You can also drop of those items at the Rockland Boulders' office on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. They are distributing emergency food and water for victims of Hurricane Sandy on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the food pantry on West Nyack Road.
"People to People is rallying to help provide emergency food to folks still without power," said Diane Serratore, executive director of People to People. "We will be distributing food to folks who need emergency food for the weekend on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m."
Also, if you have time, please go and volunteer on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Just show up.
"Active International Active Cares and Rockland Boulders Benefit Fund have already committed to help with this effort as has the Nyack Clergy," added Serratore.
"This week has been difficult for all Rocklanders, but even more for the hungry among us," said Joe Allen, president of People to People. "People to People was among those having to close its doors during the storm and with schools closed, hungry Rocklanders were left with few options to feed themselves and their children."
A number of organizations including Active International Active Cares, Rockland Boulders Benefit Fund and Temple Beth Torah have pledge support and TOUCH of Rockland is providing some food to People to People for this initiative.
People to People has also taken in food from smaller food pantries around the county that are not able at this moment to give out their food.
"We're looking for financial support or donations (from the list above) to assure that we have enough for the folks in need," said Serratore.
