Sunday: Rebuild Hi-Tor Fundraiser at Rockland Beverage
There will be raffles, giveaways and a bake sale at Rockland Beverage in Congers. The fundraiser runs from noon - 5 p.m. during the 6th Annual Congers-Valley Cottage Italian Festival
The Rebuild Hi-Tor effort has kicked off and there are many events around the county raising funds for it.

These pet lovers are hosting a fundraiser for the Rebuild Hi-Tor effort on Sunday. Here’s a look at what’s going on that day:
- Raffle—prizes include a snow board, golf bag, coolers, t-shirts, etc …
- “A percentage of the (Rockland Beverage) sales that day are going to them as well.”
- Bake Sale
- “It’s a dog-friendly event and we’re giving away free dog treats.”
“We’re trying to raise awareness because we’re animal lovers. We’re trying to let people know that Hi-Tor needs help,” said Chris Baisley. “If they don’t want to buy baked goods or beer, there are raffles as well.

“We adopted our first dog from that shelter. And being people who rescue animals ourselves, this means a lot to us. There’s a lack of funding at Hi-Tor and with all the funding being cut (such as school and government budgets), the animals are the ones that are going unseen and forgotten,” said Jennifer Baisley.
Their fundraiser runs from noon – 5 p.m. this Sunday and they’re open from noon – 7 p.m.
“We’re hoping to get a lot of foot traffic from the Italian Fest,” added Baisley.
The 6th Annual Congers-Valley Cottage Italian Festival is on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. with a raindate on Oct. 7.
“Animals don’t have a voice so it takes people in the community to step up and do something,” said Baisley. “It takes a little bit of a person’s time and $1 or $5, but it makes a big difference.”
Those that can’t donate money can donate other items such as dog or cat food or cleaning supplies. Hi-Tor is also always looking for volunteers.
There will also be a bake sale for Rebuild Hi Tor.
“I saw a sign that Hi Tor is in need of funds. I thought it was sad that the only animal shelter in the county needed help. They have a lot of animals up there and they don’t have a lot of space so they need help in any way possible,” said Animal Lover Kiersten Lauen, 21 of Congers. “I like baking so I thought that could be my contribution.”
She plans to bake a couple different items. Some will be kid friendly, but she also will bake some treats using the craft beers at Rockland Beverage.
About Rebuild Hi-Tor
In an attempt to save Hi Tor Animal Care Center, Rockland County’s only animal shelter, several members of the public teamed up with Hi-Tor to form a plan to save the shelter. Don Franchino revealed the fundraising plan that he’s spearheading, which is raise funds to build a new facility three times the size of the previous one.
After reaching out to the public, Rebuild Hi-Tor announced an important meeting at the Nanuet High School Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
