Track The Snow Heading To Nanuet

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Nanuet and the surrounding area that will remain in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.

The warning calls for "heavy snow, strong winds and dangerously cold wind chills" Thursday night through Friday morning. 

Though only a light covering of snow fell Thursday morning, the projected accumulation is for six to eight inches. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens overnight, with wind chills as low as minus-10 Friday morning. 

Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned that the state may close major highways before the worst of the storm hits. Read more here.

Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services and Orange & Rockland Utilities issued warnings Tuesday regarding the projected snow and windy conditions.

County officials say they are ready for the snowstorm and have been prepping all day.

O&R asks customers to clear ice and snow from meters and other gas equipment and vents for safety reasons. The U.S. Postal Service asked that residents do the same for mailboxes to make conditions safer for carriers. Read more tips.

The governor declared a statewide state of emergency and announced major highways will be closing at midnight.

Rockland residents are urged not to use alternative sources of heat and to protect water pipes. Read about precautions you can take.
