Nanuet 4th Graders Showcase Raw Talent

The Highview 4th grade spring concert was at 7:30 p.m. on May 26 at the Nanuet High School.

The lucky audience members who attended the fourth grade Highview Elementary spring concert were amazed that they were listening to 10 year olds.

Nanuet schools are known for their fabulous music programs. This group of 4th-graders proved that even a short time studying music can do wonders.

The music varied from classical pieces, such as Beethoven's 5th symphony and the 1812 Overture, to fun new favorites, such as movie themes including Harry Potter.

"I think it's great for the younger children to get into music at a young age," said Nanuet Freshman Katherine Filatov. "It gives them an outlet to express themselves."

Filatov's brother played in the band along with clarinet player Katie Healy. Healy, surrounded by excited family members, beamed and giggled when asked about her music.

"I like the way the instruments sound," she explained. "I love the sounds. All of the instruments," adding that her favorite piece to play is "Resolution."

Sandie Tavormina attended the concert to watch a family friend in the chorus.

"This makes them well rounded," Tavormina said. "Music and art are great stuff."
