Lady Knights Take On the Mounties

The Nanuet Girls Varsity Lacrosse team will play against Suffern this Tuesday at Suffern High School.

On Tuesday, April 9 the Nanuet Girls Varsity Lacrosse team will play against the Suffern Mounties. It will take place at Suffern High School at 4:15pm.

Nanuet currently has a 2-1 record, with two wins against Clarkstown North and Edgemont and one loss against Putnam Valley. Nanuet previously had a 5-14 record in their 2011-2012 season and missed the qualifications for the playoffs by only one game.

The Suffern Mounties are going to be great competition for the Lady Knights this Tuesday, as they have had impressive past records and made it to the playoffs last year. Suffern Lacrosse has been a dominant program in Rockland County for well over a decade. It has a rich history and the school has proceeded multiple All-American records in girls lacrosse. This year, their team consists of only one senior and the majority are sophomores who have been playing since middle school. Tuesday’s game will be their season opener.

Mark Salerno has been involved in the Nanuet Lacrosse program for the past seven years. He feels that the Mounties are “challenging to play because they slow it down. They are a very skilled team with a very skilled coach.”

There are many key players to look out for in Tuesday’s game, including Nanuet seniors Shannon Booth, Rachel Fiorentino, and Courtney Mooney, who all play attack position. Also, keep an eye on midfielders Allison Lyons, Allie Kern, new goalie Jesenia Tejeda, and sophomores Maeve Dooley and Kiera Young.

“Some goals for this season are to improve our skills, athleticism, and sense of team. We want to build on our success from last season, compete for a league title, and make the sectional playoffs,” said Mark Salerno.

It’s looking like a great season for both teams. Be sure to attend the Nanuet vs. Suffern girls lacrosse game this Tuesday at Suffern High School and look out for future posts on this game.
