Nanuet HS Takes Grease to the Stage

Nanuet Senior High School performs the classic 1970's film Grease for the last production of the school year.

On March 15 and 16, Nanuet High School’s Theater Department performed its spring musical Grease. After two and a half months of rehearsals and preparation, the cast and crew succeeded in entertaining its audience and putting on a great performance for the last production of the school year.

The protagonist, Danny Zuko, was played by Nanuet senior Mark Siriban. Some of his previous roles in school productions include Ed Carmichael of You Can’t Take It with You, Billy Crocker of Anything Goes, and Henry Clerval of Frankenstein.

Recalling his last four years with NHST, the one thing that Mark is going to miss most is the people because “you can’t replace them. They’ve grown to become more than friends, spending almost two to three hours with them everyday for 2 and a half months.”

Ileah Pratt, also a senior at Nanuet, took on the role of Betty Rizzo. Grease is the eighth and final production of her high school acting career. She’s had a number of major roles in school productions such as Dora Williams of Spoon River Anthology, Motormouth Maybelle of Hairspray, and Elizabeth Lavenza of Frankenstein.

“I’m going to miss not being able to perform on Nanuet’s stage ever again, and some of my closest friendships were established through NHST. I’m going to miss them extremely next year,” said Ileah.

In addition, along with the dedication of the cast and crew, the show would not have been as great as it was without Dr. Jack Gremli’s directing, Carol Gremli’s choreography, Elaine Royal’s musical conduction, and the performances of the band and orchestra members. It will be exciting to see students back on the NHS stage for future performances of the 2013-2014 upcoming school year.
