A Joyous Family Business

"A joyous family business" is how Carol Longobardo described DeLucia’s Italian Market And Deli in Nanuet. The one-month-old family business in the Shoparama shopping mall is co-owned by Longobardo, her brother John DeLucia and his son Daniel.

Opening a deli specializing in Italian foods was not a reach for the siblings the family is in the restaurant business and owns Joe & Joe in Pearl River.

Younger family members are learning the business, working behind the counter and serving customers.

DeLucia said they are filling a gap with their plans to prepare Italian specialties along with favorites brought in from Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

“My sister was saying we needed an Italian up here,” said DeLucia, who lives in Pelham and whose sister resides in Rockland.

He said there will be a lot of variety but one thing is for certain.

“We’re strictly an Italian deli,” he said.

DeLucia’s carries homemade sauces from Joe & Joe and ravioli from Borgotti of Arthur Avenue in addition to making its own fresh sausages, mozzarella and ravioli.    In the near future, it will offer dinners to go and have a steam table. In the meantime, customers can choose from a wide variety of signature sandwiches with names such as “The Godfather,” The Sicilian,” “The Guido,” “The Big Vin” and “The Baby Johnny” as well as wraps, Paninis and salads and a catering menu.

DeLucia’s is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The phone number is 845-507-0730 or 845-507-0731.

DeLucia’s is not the only new business to open in the shopping center located on eastbound Route 59. A few storefronts away, Smashburger will be opening in mid August.
