Get In the Halloween Spirit: Free Themed Comics, Costume Contest

As part of the second annual Halloween ComicFest, comic fans can get free Halloween themed comics at local comic book specialty shops including Toy Wiz in Nanuet, Comix Warehouse in Pearl River and Funny Business in Nyack. The giveaway is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26th and 27th with 22 different Halloween themed comics and mini comics distributed for free. 

The free comic titles include “Batman,” “Spider-Man,” “Thor,” “Adventure Time,” “Archie,” “My Little Pony, “Sesame Street” and “Sonic.”  

During the same weekend, "The Greatest Halloween Costume Contest Ever" begins and runs until Nov. 15. To enter the contest, participants must get a costume contest button from a participating comic shop, which they can pick up while they are getting their free comics, submit a picture of themselves in costume featuring the official button, and then start getting votes on the website. Children under 13 and adults over age 14 can enter the five costume categories: superhero/comics, TV/movie, gamer, horror and original.

Two winners will be selected at random for $500 shopping sprees at the comic shop of their choice and two randomly chosen winners will receive $100 shopping sprees. Additional prizes will be awarded based on the number of votes received by the costumed competitors. To get details and enter, go to here.

More than 1,400 stores across the county are participating in ComicFest with some hosting their own special events such as sales, comic signings, artist appearances and drawings, costume contests, and also community awareness programs such as blood drives and fundraisers. More than one million Halloween ComicFest full sized comics and mini comics have been ordered for free distribution.
