We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new  places to try out with children.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities  or events for the week.

- 25th Anniversary Celebration

Where/When: Tumble-Bee Gymnastics, Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: There will be a clown doing face painting, Bossy the Frog, games and prizes!

Why Go: With carnival rides, games, food and music, the whole family will have a blast!

- Fifth Annual Chili Cook-off (Pearl River)

Where and When: Pearl River's Special Education PTA will holds its fifth annual Pearl River Chili Cook-off on Saturday, September 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Central Avenue Field in downtown Pearl River.

Details: The event includes music and games and raises funds for the SEPTA Scholarship Fund. According to SEPTA, the event drew 12 participating businesses and more than 1,000 attendees in 2010, raising enough money to provide seven scholarships.

- Pearl River Auto Show

Where and When: Central Avenue Field, next to Pearl River Hook and Ladder, Engine One, in downtown Pearl River; Sunday, September 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Rain date will be September 25.

Details: Sponsored by the Pearl River Hook and Ladder and the Rockland Rodders, this annual event is a fun day for car enthusiasts young and old alike. It is free to see the cars, but to enter a vehicle there’s a fee, with proceeds used to benefit local charities. For more details, call 845-270-3545 or 845-735-6107.

- Audition for Pearl River Day's Karaoke Competition: Pearl River Idol

Where and When: Pearl River Library, 80 Franklin Avenue; Wednesday, September 14 at 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: Contestants, between the ages of 11 and 19 who are residents of Orangetown or Nanuet, are invited to audition for the 2011 Pearl River Day Karaoke competition. Five applicants will be chosen to take part in the preliminaries on Pearl River Day. (Another five applicants already have been chosen at a previous audition held in August.) The final 10 contestants are invited to sing one karaoke song on the showmobile stage on Pearl River Day, scheduled for Saturday morning, October 1, 2011. Singers will need to supply their own karaoke CD of their song selection 30 minutes before they are due on stage. Three finalists will be chosen to sing at the close of Pearl River Day for the crowning of “Pearl River Idol.” Interested applicants should arrive at the library to audition with a completed application form. - 2nd Annual Race for Recovery

When/Where: Sunday,September 18, 8:a.m. –1 p.m. at Rockland Lake State Park, Congers

Why Go: Jawonio’s Race for Recovery in support of people with Mental Health Challenges. individuals and teams welcomed
Professionally timed 10k and 5k races, 5k family fun walk
Cash Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and fun games and 
"kidtivities."
