Meeting Set To Relaunch Nanuet Chamber of Commerce

Open to all residents, business owners/managers in Nanuet. Please join us at 7 p.m. on April 2 at the Nanuet Library

The Nanuet Chamber of Commerce, once an active organization, disbanded over a decade ago. With the renovation of the Nanuet Mall, the downsizing of Pfizer, and the increasing number of small businesses located in the hamlet, it's time to revisit the idea of having an active organization to address specific town issues.

"The goal is to create an organization that will serve to improve Nanuet in a variety of ways," said Risa Hoag, of Nanuet and GMG Public Relations. "Therefore, the name may not be Chamber of Commerce, but perhaps Nanuet Action Council or something similar."

Niche groups within the organization will also be explored such as a restaurant committee that develops its own events and brings it back to the bigger organization for help with promotion. There could also be smaller groups for retail, clean up, etc. The idea is to get people in the community involved on whatever level and in whatever area they have an interest in.

"The objective is to involve residents, businesses and even students to get involved and make a difference in Nanuet," said Kim Tran, editor of Nanuet Patch.

The first public meeting will be held at the Nanuet Library Community Room on April 2 at 7pm and all Nanuet residents and business owners are encouraged to attend. Patch will provide refreshments.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
