Nyack River Club Reopens After Sandy Destruction (VIDEO)

They reopened their bar and fireplace rooms on Nov. 16

Like many areas along the river, the Nyack River Club Restaurant saw much flooding and destruction from Hurricane Sandy. They were down temporarily and are happy to reopen their doors, the bar area and fireplace rooms on Friday, Nov. 16.

Hosts and owners Michael and Pete Hekker are looking forward to welcoming both their faithful and new customers back to the bar.

The River Club was damaged when a poorly-secured sailboat blew off its mooring and was carried into the marina, according to its website.  At 10:30 p.m. on Monday, the boat had poked its “nose” into several windows. After strong gusts repeatedly propelled the boat into the building, more structural damage was discovered in the morning. Additionally, a dock from the marina struck one of the garage doors on Dockside, allowing the room to flood. Dan Galligan created a video, which is attached to this article, documenting the damage.

"We realize that we are lucky; the building can be repaired and belongings replaced. Our hearts go out to all those who suffered much greater damage. Our bar and fireplace rooms are open; please be patient as we work to get the Dockside room up and running, and the River Club back to its usual capacity," according to its website.

They have seafood specialities and daily menu specials; also enjoy free live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
