O&R Declares Storm Watch

O&R Utilities declared a storm watch with heavy snow expected Friday into Saturday.

Orange & Rockland Utilities announced Thursday that it is declaring a company-wide storm watch in anticipation of the snow expected in the region Friday and Saturday.

The National Weather Service has a winter storm watch in effect for Rockland County and the surrounding area from Friday afternoon through Saturday.

In preparation for the freezing rain, high winds and snow, O&R is preparing its employees for electric operations, tree-trimming and overhead lines work.

O&R expects to upgrade its status to a Storm Alert 8 a.m. Friday. They will go to Incident Command System management, which means normal operations are cancelled and O&R turns its entire focus to repairing storm damage and restoring any lost electrical service.

O&R reminds customers to always assume a downed wire is live and dangerous. They should call O&R at 1-877-434-4100 to report it.

What a joke......they sit and watch the storm while emergency services are out protecting the public; then they insist the VOLUNTEER fire services "babysit" their downed power lines until they have time to "get to it"

Do you really think that O&R really cares? Hey, they are owned by ConEd who considers them a weight on their shoulder. O&R (ConEd) needs to harden the infrastructure in Rockland and Orange to withstand major storms on a continual basis. More feeder circuits need to be placed underground. If my power goes out again, I will really be vocal against them. Promise!

Anyone who is bashing O&R & saying they don't care clearly has no idea what EVERY utility company endures during a storm. The people who work for utility companies sacrifice much more than any normal person would. They are on the front lines! They leave their families, drop EVERYTHING & respond to power outages and problems. I for one am grateful for the work they do. PLUS, do you really think the utility company WANTS people to loose power? they don't make money when the power is out... They loose money every minute someone is without power! Think about it....

The guys in the field have a tough job and should be commended for their hard work, but they are well compensated for that work too. O&R does not lose money with storms like these. Once summer rolls around they just raise the rates to make up for the cost.
