The weather’s warming up and people are kicking into high gear to get in shape for the summer

Those looking for an alternative to diets and gym memberships can turn to Dr. Lisa Heuer, who started a new practice in Nyack that specializes in medically supervised weight management.

This Clarkstown South alum grew up in New City. After training and working in New York City for more than a decade, Heuer is returning to her home county and now resides in Clarkstown.

“I returned to Rockland before opening my medical practice October 1, 2012,” she said. “I always planned to open a private practice in Rockland and the timing was perfect professionally and personally.  There currently is no other physician in Rockland that dedicates 100 percent of their practice to weight management and preventive medicine.  I saw a need with the obesity crisis not only in adults but also in our children and teens.”

Now adjusting to life in Rockland, she said she loves being back and although she lived in NYC for a number of years, “I have always been back since leaving high school as my family still lives here so I have seen all the gradual changes that have taken place since leaving for Cornell in 1992.  It is a great place to grow up and live.”

Heuer’s program offers a very unique approach to finally taking off the weight once and for all.  It is a comprehensive, medical approach that is not available with existing commercial weight loss programs.  Many people on traditional, restricted diets, lose muscle, not fat, according to her website. This ultimately causes the regaining of weight.  Her program is very flexible and can be adjusted, as necessary, to promote more effective weight loss that maintains muscle mass while maximizing fat loss.

“I plan on continuing to grow my practice and reach more and more people.  Losing weight is a family affair for many and I greatly hope to improve the quality of life for as many patients as possible.  I am so passionate about the work I do and it is amazing to see patients no longer need medicine for diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, pain, depression/anxiety, etc. and also have dramatic improvement in self esteem,” she said. “I have the best job and I love it.”

As part of her program, she customizes a plan based on your unique metabolism, hormone levels, and existing medical conditions.  In certain cases she utilizes novel medications to aid in your weight loss. Her focus is helping you lose weight quickly and safely, but most importantly, she is committed to helping you keep the weight off long-term.   This program emphasizes weight maintenance, behavior modification, education and long term follow-up.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
