“It’s a main street orientation (with) emphasis toward fashion, dining, entertainment,” he said, adding it will offer a differentiated product mix and architectural design.

Schneider said the center will have between 750,000 and 760,000 square feet, with 3,500 to 4,000 ground level parking spaces. Only four or five retail spaces have not been leased. Some tenants that signed leases will not want their names released yet.

“We’re very pleased with the leasing effort,” said Schneider. “There will be some tenants that won’t make the grand opening.”

He noted many tenants would take possession of their spaces this month.

By spring 2014, full 100 percent occupancy is expected along with all tenants open for business. 24 Hour Fitness will occupy 45,073 square feet on two levels and feature an indoor swimming pool, basketball court, locker rooms and a variety of exercise classes and strength cardio and training equipment.

The Shops at Nanuet General Manager Ryan Hidalgo said the building facades will include lots of glass, metal and brick and some will have canopies.  He said he would like to hold a jobs fair but it is difficult while it an active construction site. Hidalgo said some of the retailers are listing the employment opportunities on their websites, which are then linked to The Shops at Nanuet’s Facebook page.

Clarkstown Town Supervisor Alex Gromack said The Shops at Nanuet is an important project for the town, Nanuet School District and Rockland County and one that is creating a good deal of anticipation.

“There is such a buzz in our community on The Shops at Nanuet,” he said.  “As far as we’re concerned, we will work toward making this one of the most positive attributes of our town.”

Fairway Senior Vice President of Real Estate & Construction Aaron Fleishaker said their markets typically employ 350 to 400 people, adding that some store managers who began as stock clerks now earn six figure salaries. Fleishaker said the 66,097 square foot market will be the 14-store chain’s “newest iteration of Fairway” and will have a sit down café.

“I think we are going to give the people of Rockland County a unique food shopping experience,” he said. “For many years we have thought this was a great location.”
