Union Restaurant Gives Back to the Community

For the Third Year this Fine Restaurant Hosts a We Care Foundation Event

For 18 years Chef David Martinez worked at Peter Kelly’s restaurants honing his craft.  In 2007 he teamed up with Paulo Feteira, who also worked for Kelly, and they opened Union Restaurant and Bar Latino in Haverstraw.

On Union’s regular menu, one can find dishes like codorniz asada; grilled quail, mushroom risotto & scallion salsa for an appetizer; and entrees like red snapper cochino: braised endive, kalamata olives, tomato confit & puree de papas. Union is an upscale treat and is located on New Main Street in downtown Haverstraw.

From Feb. 28 through March 2, Union will be hosting their third annual “We Care” event. The restaurant is open to anyone from Rockland County from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a complimentary buffet meal. The restaurant will not be open for regular business during this time. Chef Martinez will be serving dishes such as Tilapia w/lemon and butter sauce, chicken fingers or wings with an orange glaze for the children, Latino rice, pasta, vegetables, salad and a dessert.

“I will go by the market," said Martinez, “whatever is fresh I will be using.”

Martinez and Feteira feel that it is their responsibility to give back to the community and hope that other restaurants in the area will join them in the “We Care Foundation” next year.

“Times are hard,” said Emily Dominquez, Union’s Public Relations Representative. “Even people with homes and two cars in the garage deserve a nice meal with their families.”

The event fed over 3,000 guests last year and the restaurant hopes to serve more dinners this year. Due to the amount of diners, there will be a wait time. No alcoholic beverages will be served or allowed on premises and no children under 18 years old will be allowed without an adult.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
