Will Sears In Nanuet Close? Possible Impact for Simon?

Company announces 100-120 Kmarts and Sears stores will close - locations not yet disclosed

Sears Holdings Corp. plans to close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores after poor sales during the holidays, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Sears Holdings (SHLD) said it has yet to determine which stores will close but said it will post the list on http://www.searsmedia.com. Sears would not discuss how many, if any, jobs would be cut, the AP reported.

is one of the anchor stores at the Nanuet Mall. Nanuet Mall owners Simon Property plans to everything other than Sears and Macy's starting Jan. 1. Sears owns their building and will be part of the new

Simon is currently working with Sears and Macy's to update their exterior look to match the design theme of the upcoming Shops at Nanuet. According to Simon, Macy's is on board, but Sears is hesitant with updating the look of their exterior building.

Sears has not disclosed which locations will be closing, but if the Nanuet Mall's Sears is one of them, what do you think will happen? Tell us in the Comments section below.

If this Sears is one of the 100+ to close, Will it be replaced with a new department store, new retail stores or just more open space and parking?

How will Simon's plans change?

Since Sears owns that building, who will buy it after it closes, if it closes? What Amazing Closeout Sales are you expecting?

The management of Sears was very enthusiastic about the new [Shops at Nanuet] set-up. I doubt they'll close..At least, I hope so...

If there is any thought of keeping the Nanuet store open it's because of the new shopping center coming in. But I think the reluctance of the parent company to update the exterior probably gives an accurate idea of what they plan to do. Based on the traffic I've seen in that store and my own experience with customer service they don't stand a chance. The whole chain is dying a slow death due to poor management and customer services.

Sears - year after year the worst retailer in the US. Plain old poor management,
They won't survive.

They may not survive, but it's not just poor management. The whole country is in trouble, not just Sears.
The average citizen lost 8% on his/her investments. Congress voted themselves a 15% increase.

I do hope Sears hangs in there. That's all that's left for us after we lost Boscov's and Stern's before that.

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend

I see your point isnt so much about what they are spending it on, but the process that they followedRead More to get to this point, but are they getting generators for the street lights on main street or the traffic signals? Seems like a project that is way out of control, who has gone to these community centers during storms anyway. All I have ever read about was people charging cell phones at the community centers. Good Job Pat.
