The mission of the Rockland County Nurse Recognition Committee is to recognize the contributions that nurses have made to our community and to promote the health and well-being of the community through Nurse Recognition Day Committee County Projects.

Nurse Recognition Day was started in Rockland County 30 years ago by nurses representing Healthcare Facilities and Healthcare Service Providers in the community. The Nurse Recognition Day Committee has been made up of nurses from these various organizations.

Nurse Recognition Day is a part of the National Nurse Recognition Week, which is held every year to raise public awareness of the value of nursing. This year's National Nurse Recognition Week will be celebrated May 6 – 12, 2014 throughout the United States. Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
