Cancer Patients from Rockland and Orange Counties to be Honored at the 2013 Light The Night Walk Kickoff Party

The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter will officially
kick off its 2013 Light The Night Walk campaign at the Mid-Hudson Valley
Kickoff Party on Sunday, July 28th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at
Provident Bank Park in Pomona. The event is open to the public, free of charge,
and will include food, presentations from the Mid-Hudson Valley Honored
Patients, mission and fundraising workshops, and advocacy information. Each
attendee will also receive a free ticket to the Rockland Boulders baseball game
following the event. The Kickoff Party gives participants the opportunity to
generate excitement for the 2013 Mid-Hudson Valley Light The Night Walk, which
will take place on Sunday, October 20th at 5:00 p.m. at Provident
Bank Park in Pomona.  More
information on the Walk and Kickoff Party can be found at www.lightthenight.org/wch or call 914.821.8362.

Each Light The Night Walk honors
local blood cancer survivors and commemorates individuals who have lost their
lives to these diseases. The 2013 Mid-Hudson Valley Honored Patients include
Sandra Bickerstaff of Harriman, a survivor of acute myeloid leukemia, and Danny
van Schaik of Suffern, an 11-year-old survivor of acute lymphoblastic
leukemia.  The Mid-Hudson Valley In
Memory Honoree is Marty Campbell of Stony Point, who lost his battle to non-Hodgkin
lymphoma in May 2012 at the age of 29. To learn more about the 2013 Light The

These efforts culminate in
inspirational, memorable evening walks in over two hundred communities each

fall across North America. Last year, the three Westchester/Hudson Valley Walks in
Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties included more than 5,000 walkers who
collectively raised $857,000.
Nationally, Light The Night raised $55 million in 2012.

The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society, based in White Plains, NY, is the world’s largest
voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research,
education and patient services. Funds raised from Light The Night provide
significant support to these programs.
