MAKE A DIFFERENCE ROCKLAND! PUBLIC NETWORKING EVENT

The public is invited to attend

Make A Difference Rockland!,

a free networking event on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Nanuet Senior High School gymnasium at 103 Church Street in Nanuet, NY from 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm.

The seventh annual event (formerly called JCC Cares) features dozens of local non-profit groups and other governmental agencies getting a chance to network with the public. Attendees can meet and mingle with representatives from the cultural, healthcare, arts, historical, academic, recreational, and religious communities and learn about their membership, volunteer and donor opportunities.

“Back in 2005, I had come up with this idea as I had recently moved back to the county and was exploring volunteer opportunities and didn’t know where to turn,” noted founder and Rockland resident Marc Silverstein. “Our goal is to encourage residents to ‘give where you live’, and learn about and connect with many fine charities who are grateful for support. Nearly 80 agencies participated last year, and we expect to have many returnees along with new ones. Each year, the event grows,” Silverstein added.

Following the MAKE A DIFFERENCE ROCKLAND! showcase, the public is invited to view a documentary titled, "A Small Act." This powerful 90-minute movie bears witness to the ripple effect that a small charitable act can create. Co-sponsored by both the Rivertown Film Society and the Friends of the Nanuet Public Library, film will be introduced by Nyack attorney Dennis Lynch, board member of the nonprofit Giving to Ghana

. Admission is free, and the film will be shown in the 3rd floor community room of the Nanuet Public Library at 7:30pm.

In addition to the film, a concert will be held in the nearby Nanuet Senior High School auditorium at 7:30pm. “SchoolHouse Rock” will feature the talent from students at four of the Nanuet district schools and led by Robert Dorough, a primary composer for SchoolHouse Rock, a popular series of educational animated shorts that ran on ABC-TV in the 1970s and 1980s. All proceeds from the concert will benefit both the Nanuet Family Resource Center and the Friends of the Nanuet Public Library. Concert tickets are $10 each and are on sale now at both the Nanuet Public Library and the Nanuet Family Resource Center located at George Miller Elementary School. For more information on the concert, contact Roseann Mercado at 845-627-4889 rmercado@nanuetsd.org

In keeping with the mission of Make a Difference Rockland, two Girl Scouts from Nanuet hope to earn their “Gold Award” through their hours of volunteering with Make A Difference Rockland! Over the past few months, both scouts had spent hours working to update the organization’s database, preparing forms, writing letters, and graphic design for invitations and flyers.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
