Thanksgiving for the Earth—A Unique Sierra Club Event!

Sierra Club
Lower Hudson Group (Rockland, Westchester, Putnam) takes time out
from its activist role to remember and honor the Earth's beauty and
bounty that calls them to action. Sierra Club has invited speakers to
share the stories of the Earth-honoring traditions of Indigenous
Peoples of the American Plains and Peru - Robert Vetter, Maddi
Cheers, and Dorothy Cunha.


Come and share your stories of
gratitude and participate in the ancient Despacho ceremony creating
an offering for the Earth. Refreshments will be served.

$50
in advance, $60 at the door. Doors open at 1:30.

Robert Vetter is a
cultural anthropologist who has conducted fieldwork in the area of
spirituality and healing among Southern Plains Indian tribes since
1980. He has an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Oklahoma.
Bob was adopted into families in the Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Comanche
tribes. His adopted grandfather was Oliver Pahdopony, the last
medicine man of the Comanches. Along with his adopted uncle and
medicine man Richard Tartsah Senior, Robert Vetter authored the book
Big Bow: The Spiritual Life and Teachings of a Kiowa Family.



Maddi Cheers had studied
extensively with Iroquois and other Native American elders for 7
years. She has provided training programs on multicultural games and
activities for teachers and recreational specialists in the
Baltimore/Washington area and on Long Island. Maddi has a B.S. and
has taught dance, creative movement and multicultural games to
elementary age children for more than 20 years. As an actress and
story teller, she has developed classes in theater and creative
writing for various organizations, including schools and camps. She
is co-creater of Funfit, a successful family fitness program.

Dorothy Cunha has
apprenticed in shamanic arts since 1993. Dorothy is a teacher of the
Pachakuti Mesa Tradition originated bo Oscar Miro-Quesada, author and
founder of The Heart of the Healer Alliance. These transformative
practices and Earth-honoring rituals help create positive change for
the Self, one’s community, and our planet in theses unprecedented
times. Dorothy also studied shamanic traditions with Alberto
Villoldo, author and founder of The Four Winds Society, and with John
Perkins, author of Confessions of an Economic Hitman. She
completed Spiritual Leadership Training with Harshada Wagner.
