Seasonal Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Department of Health will hold seasonal flu vaccine clinics on Friday, Jan. 14 and Friday, Jan. 28. Both clinics will be held from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Nursing Conference Room in Building D at the Robert L. Yeager Health Center at 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona. Enter through Building D.

Please call 845-364-2633 for an appointment.

The clinics are available free of charge to adults 60 years and older. Patients with Medicare and Medicaid must bring their cards. Individuals 9 through 59 years of age can receive the vaccine, but will be charged a $25 fee. Each patient must bring proof of Rockland County residency such as a driver's license. In addition, the pneumococcal vaccine will be available at these clinics only to Medicare recipients 65 and older who are not with an HMO.
Besides getting your flu vaccine, follow these good health habits to help prevent getting and spreading the flu: avoid close contact with people who are sick, stay home when you are sick, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, wash your hands often, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against three different flu viruses that are likely to cause illness this season: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated against the flu.
Flu vaccine is readily available at other sites in the county, such as pharmacies or health care providers. A source for locating flu clinics is to log onto www.flu.gov and enter your zip code in the flu vaccine finder to find flu clinics near you.
