48 Rockland Roadrunners Finished The ING New York City Marathon

48 Rockland Road Runners’ members finished the 2013 ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3. The iconic race had more than 50,000 finishers, making it the largest marathon in history.

Each runner had his or her own purpose for participating. 

Jason Kelly, 44M, found his purpose in the final miles. He instinctively stopped when he passed a runner in distress. Kelly sacrificed his time to help his fellow runner limp across the finish line.

Last year, Hurricane Sandy delayed Elizabeth Apicella’s chance to run the race as her first marathon. This year, the 33 year-old female ran strong finishing the race in under four hours: 3:55:18.

For Ayako Yamazaki, 38F, it was just another race. She said, “I struggled the whole race, but managed to put a smile on my face at the finish line.” Yamazaki will be smiling again on November 17 when she runs for Rockland Road Runners at the Philadelphia marathon.

Art Gunther, 42M, led the team with a time of 2:43:14. John Arbolino, 63M, our closer, finished with a time of 7:24:32.
