three Clarkstown Boy Scout troops saw six of their members receive scouting’s
highest honor. Eagle Court of Honor ceremonies were held for Nanuet, New City
and Congers Boy Scouts.
Joseph Frank Somma Jr. of Troop 33 of Nanuet achieved Eagle Scout rank on Friday in a ceremony at the Pearl River Elks Club. His project was the beautification and renovation of the courtyard at the Nanuet Library.
On Saturday the Eagle Court of Honor was held for three Scouts Hansoo Lee, Stephen Badinelli, and Eric Chung of Troop 97 of New City. Lee built three wooden benches in a grassy area at the Birchwood School. Badinelli repaired damage done by Hurricane Sandy to the outside of the United Hospice Joe Raso Residence by building new benches and installing a concrete walkway. Chung renovated the outdoor classroom, added compost bins and beautified the front entrance of Woodglen Elementary School.
The Court of Honor for Scouts Michael Kocik and Peter Schauer of Congers’ Troop 29 took place on Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Association of Congers. Kocik organized the planting and restoration of the area next to Lakewood Elementary School's lower playground for his Eagle Project. Schauer constructed and landscaped a memorial honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001 on the grounds of the Congers Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, who is an Eagle Scout, attended all three ceremonies. Rockland County Executive Ed Day was present for part of the Nanuet Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.
