Just a month ago, Rockland's only animal shelter was at risk of shutting down in July. However, by the end of April this year, Hi-Tor Animal Care Center received to keep it open through the rest of 2012.
As of June, they have 39 dogs and only 30 kennels and seven are in foster care. There are 70 cats and 30-40 of them are with foster families.
However, that's all about to change.
This Wednesday, July 11, Hi Tor is making an announcement at 11 a.m. at the facility regarding the future of Hi-Tor Animal Care Center, Inc. Check back with Patch on Wednesday for an update.
About Hi Tor
Founded in 1973, Hi-Tor Animal Care Center Inc. is a privately incorporated, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and improving animal life, promoting responsible pet adoption and ownership and providing humane treatment for all animals in its care. The facility is the only animal shelter in RocklandCounty and takes in approximately 2,500 animals annually. It has a small paid staff, with a volunteer Board of Directors and a team of volunteers.
