Hi Tor Shelter to Reveal Major Future Plans

Due to financial difficulties and the condition of the building, this shelter is at risk at shutting down.

Just a month ago, Rockland's only animal shelter was at risk of shutting down in July. However, by the end of April this year, Hi-Tor Animal Care Center received to keep it open through the rest of 2012.

As of June, they have 39 dogs and only 30 kennels and seven are in foster care. There are 70 cats and 30-40 of them are with foster families.

However, that's all about to change.

This Wednesday, July 11, Hi Tor is making an announcement at 11 a.m. at the facility regarding the future of Hi-Tor Animal Care Center, Inc. Check back with Patch on Wednesday for an update.

About Hi Tor

The shelter’s Web site is www.HiTor.org.

The Hi-Tor Animal Care Center is committed to acquiring a state of the art facility, on a dedicated campus, to provide the highest standard of care to sheltered animals and to promote responsible petownership through education.

“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.” Mohandas Gandhi

One can’t help but wonder what kind of judgement would be made of us in Rockland County, one of thewealthiest counties in New York State, based on how we treat our animal shelter.

Hi-Tor Animal Care Center, Inc. is located at 65 Firemen’s Memorial Drive, Pomona, NY 10970.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
