Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland’s March for Meals Campaign a Success

Support will help to continue feeding homebound seniors in our community

It takes a village each and every day for Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland to serve the community’s seniors and homebound neighbors, and only with the support of hundreds of volunteers each month can the agency help meet their needs. The agency participated in the national 2014 March for Meals campaign (www.marchformeals.com) to rally and mobilize even more volunteers and community members to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.

Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland’s participation will also enable the agency to apply for a grant from the Meals On Wheels Association of America for up to $10,000 to further support nutrition and other programs for Rockland’s seniors.

Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland held a Community Champions Week March 17th-21st as a part of its March for Meals Campaign.  Congresswoman Nita Lowey, NY State Assembly members Ken Zebrowski and Ellen Jaffee, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco,  Town of Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack,  Town of Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips, and Town of Stony Point Supervisor Geoffrey Finn all participated  by either delivering meals to the homebound or by serving meals at one of our five senior centers in the County. NY State Senator David Carlucci provided a proclamation in honor of March for Meals. In addition, 14 local Rotary Groups also participated in Community Champions Week by delivering meals in their towns and neighborhoods.

To add to the excitement, Greater Hudson Bank, participated in March for Meals by donating $1 to Meals on Wheels for every new Greater Hudson Bank Facebook Page Like and Twitter Follower during the month of March.

In addition to all of the community support, the agency’s own programs joined in on the March for Meals campaign as well: all of the agency’s five senior centers across the county held Open Houses to celebrate March for Meals, and the agency held a fundraiser at Levity Live Comedy Club that raised over $2,000 as part of the March for Meals Campaign.
