Obituary: John J. Bailey of Nanuet, 84

He was a retired New York City police officer.

John J. Bailey of Nanuet, formerly of the South Bronx, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Montrose Veterans Hospital. He was 84.

Mr. Bailey was a police officer with the New York City Police Department for 24 years before retiring in 1982. He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Masontown, PA, to Joseph and Kathryn Bailey.

He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1956.

Mr. Bailey lived in Nanuet for the past 53 years and was a parishioner of St. Aedan's R. C. Church.

He is survived by his sons, Michael and Marie of Blauvelt, Steven and Mary of Cummings, GA, and Paul and Dava of Blauvelt; grandchildren, Kathryn, Brittany, Sean, Kyle and Ryan Bailey and sisters, Josephine Hart of MA and Sylvia Bailey of New Jersey. He is predeceased by his wife, Caroline E. Bailey (2007), son, John J. Bailey Jr. (2004), granddaughter, Jessica Morgan Bailey (1999) and daughter-in-law Kimberly Bailey (1999). 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aedan's R. C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet. Visiting is Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River.
