How The State Senate Of New York Helped My Family

New homeowner shares homebuying experience

I am a 32-year-old married woman born and raised in Rockland County and have twin three year olds.  My husband and I found the perfect house to buy which happened to be a “short sale”. We knew this real estate purchase was not typical buy and would take time, but the house was worth the wait.

We signed contracts May of last year, 2011. The seller’s attorney submitted the paper work to the third party bank/short sale bank. Weeks and months went by with no response from anyone. Our file was on someone’s desk/computer virtually buried and lost and did not exist.

This is when at the suggestion of my father I contacted Senator David Carlucci’s office many months later for help.

Mr. Andrew Jennings, a district representative who I met with in Nanuet, immediately gave me hope that we can buy the house and there is a solution. Mr. Jennings called the short sale bank endlessly, our attorney, sellers attorney, the previous owner, now a widow, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, wrote and read endless e-mails from all parties involved and was able to get our file in motion and to where it finally exists.

Due to Mr. Jennings' extraordinary effort, persistence, time and dedication tous to buy our house we did get a short sale approval. The real-estate process took 13 months.

Due to New York Senator Carlucci’s office, that helps the community, we were able to have an outcome that seemed impossible. We are forever grateful to have purchased our dream home for our family.

Sincerely thankful,
A new Clarkstown resident,

This is not a heartening story. It is just scary how difficult the banks have become. It took me six months to refinance which should have taken no longer than 1 month. Not to mention the historically low rates that no one can get, unless your a senator or congressman!

Its is a very good story, thanks. But it does, once again show us the regulation and policy of banks is still a huge problem to the economy.
