Best Of—Top Six Showdown: Pizza

Don't forget to visit your favorite Pizza shop listing in the Patch directory "Places" and rate it

On Monday, Patch started a poll to ask Patch readers what their favorite pizza shop was. After taking in consideration the poll results and the comments section, here are the Top 6:

Pearl River

Post your vote in the comment section and vote in the poll as well. In the event of a tie in the comments section, the poll results will be used as a tie breaker. We'll take votes until 5 p.m. on Friday, and the winner will be announced on Monday morning.

We encourage you to share this contest on your Twitter or Facebook feed, especially if you're pulling for a certain restaurant.

Vote for your favorite place in the survey below and don't forget to click on the links below and rate the store on the Patch Place Listing. You can even leave a review.

Please let us know why you think your choice is the best. So without further ado, here are the places seeking your nominees!

I don't get it....i really don't. Why can't everyone just state which place they like best and why and leave it at that. Stop bashing each other and stop bashing the Pizza shops!

My vote goes to M&M Pizza Bistro...their motto is food just the way you like it. Huge variety of pizzas, great food and friendly staff. Portions are amazing and very reasonably priced. Always an enjoyable eating experience.

Simply the best; whether its chicken parm, white pizza , sicilian, grandma pizza, penne ala vodka, etc., etc., etc.

There is nothing better in Rockland County or anywhere else than M&M!

Sally, who are you talking about?
Sally Laufer February 24, 2012 at 03:12 AM
Their penne a la vodka pizza is the best! My kids drove an hour to dine there! The chef has an obvious passion shown in the varied daily specials. Highly recommended.

My vote has to go to M&M. I know I will never be disappointed with their food and can get it any way I like!

Raffeles ...Homemade at its best

Of these six, Nanuet Hotel.....
Pat February 24, 2012 at 02:32 PM
Nanuet Hotel has my vote, it's head and shoulders above the rest. However the folks at the patch screwed this thing up by listing the Hotel and the Restaurant as the same place.
Mary Kennedy February 24, 2012 at 02:37 PM
M&M is the best in my opinion. Fresh food, unique specials and you can't beat the prices. I do like Martios as well, but really like M&M the best.

I grew up in Pearl River and I have eaten at most of these places. First of all, I know absolutely nobody who goes to M&M and find it a bit suspicious that so many votes and comments appear for this place. Hmmm! I truly enjoyed the place when it was Tony's Pizza and haven't been back since it was Three Daughters. It may very well be a good place to eat but there are better ways to drum up business than hijacking a Patch poll. Try sending out some coupons. I haven't received any yet. As far as the poll goes, it is definitely non-scientific as stated above. If I ask my kids, they think Chuck E. Cheese's is the best, If I ask my older siblings, they like Martio's and Posa Posa and my parents like the Nanuet Restaurant. These are all people in the same family that like different pizza. I like almost anything but the chain restaurant pizzas but I do think the poll should be based on cheese pies only to be a bit more fair. A true pizza doesn't have Buffalo sauce on it. It is always good to support our local businesses and I would like to try all of these places and I would recommend that we all taste all of the pies before we say which is truly the "best" in Nanuet or Pearl River.

Well said Mike S. The comment about Penne a la Vodka pizza speaks volumes - for a lot of us, that's not pizza. But for the new generation of kids and parents with kids, crazy toppings are the norm, not the exception. I loved Fordham's as a kid growing up in Pearl River in the '60s and '70s, but didn't get a chance to go to Nanuet Hotel and Nanuet Restaurant until I got my license and a car in 1974. We would go before or after a trip to the Nanuet Mall or before a show at the Red Rail. So I think there's also a sense of nostalgia associated with our choices, as we had many good times sitting around a pizza and a pitcher or two of beer at Nanuet Hotel. The circumstances surrounding the meal are as big a part of our fond remembrances of the restaurant as the quality of the pizza is. That being said, as an adult in my 50s having gone back to these places I find some have remained consistent (Nanuet Hotel, Martio's) and some have changed their recipes, either due to new ownership or responding to changing tastes (Fordham, Nanuet Restaurant) I haven't tried M&M or Raffaelle's or Posa Posa yet, so I can't speak for them. But I have been back to Fordham and Martios's and Nanuet Hotel and Nanuet Restaurant in the last few years, and my vote (based on my likes and experiences and the value I place on consistency) is, hands down, Nanuet Hotel. YMMV.

I love the food at M+M's. Have never tried anything I didn't think was excellent and they will cater to any special requests. If you haven't already tried the food, you really should. There's nothing not to like.

Wow, Nothing like taking the fun out of a poll! 2 hours ago, Raffaele's was in 5th place with 39 votes and the Hotel had 97...... Now, Raffaele's is the leader by a large margin with over 150 and still climbing every minute to the Hotel's 109. Kind of strange but I guess the folks at Raffaele's got wind of the M&M vote padding and took matters into their own hands.

Wow, the Red Rail. That brings back memories. As a kid I would walk or bike into town and hit up Fordham for a slice or two. My favorite was a place in town that I can't remember the name of that used to sell slices in the back for 45 cents and they were huge. Nothing like getting 2 huge slices and a coke for $1.25. In high school, I would go to Tony's for a slice and a calzone. When I got my license I explored them all. I loved the Nanuet Restaurant and Hotel. Martio's was good but I didn't go there much. I tried Posa Posa in the 80's when they opened up and I loved it. I didn't hang out in front of the Pearl River Lanes so I never got into Pizza City. They have pretty good pies though. All of these places are good or they wouldn't be opened for so many years. Pizza and Brew in Nanuet in the 90's used to be good as well. Cacciatore's is great for delivery too. I can say that I can't judge Raffaele's or M&M since I haven't been there yet, but the other 4 places are all good. I am sure M&M and Raffaele's are good too.
