Climate Change: The View from Greenland and Antarctica

Climate change is reshaping both the Arctic and Antarctic regions more rapidly than any other part of the world. Scientists are studying the melting of glaciers in these areas with a particular concern for sea level rise.

On Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 pm, Rockland Sierra Club will be hosting a talk at Nanuet Library given by Margie Turrin, Education Coordinator at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. She will speak about and show slides from her experience traveling to Greenland as a member of a research project focused on climate change, and her participation in the Antarctica Forum, an interdisciplinary group that brought together scientists, journalists, business people, academics, artists and spiritual leaders, with the aim of creating momentum for change.

The views promise to be spectacular!

Education Coordinator at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, Margie has worked on projects from the Polar regions to the Hudson River. She has run both adult and youth field-based science education programs on and around the Hudson. Her polar projects have taken her to Alaska, Greenland and Antarctica.

The program is free and the public is invited to attend.
