Food For Thought: Self Care

Many students as well as clients ask me how I do it all? Here is this month's answer: Self Care

The Art Of Juggling

Juggling tennis balls or bowling pins may be a novel and lesser seen art form these days, but the art of juggling in terms of women in today’s day and age is truly an art form worth taking notice of.

I recently sat on a panel to talk about managing career and family in regards to women’s health and wellness, and what I realized while preparing this talk was that the word 'juggling' is quite appropriate for the topic at hand.

As a single mother of three teenagers with a growing new business on my hands, I have been taking a few juggling lessons lately.  I try to do it all with a smile and feeling grateful for all of the wonderful things life has brought my way, but let’s face it, life may not always feel like a bowl of cherries.

This brings me to one of my favorite topics to talk about—Self Care.

Taking care of yourself is not only one of the best gifts you can give to yourself,  but also one of the best gifts you can give to those around you. How can you truly give to others if you are not feeling “full” enough to give anything at all?

So what are some of my favorite things to do for myself?  Here are some of mine:

  • Plan to take a hike outside and connect with nature
  • Take a yoga class
  • Cook and enjoy a delicious dinner with your family (make sure to leave room for dessert!)
  • Book a pamper yourself appointment of choice (ie: nails, toes, massage, haircut)
  • Walk through Barnes and Noble and buy a book you would enjoy reading

What are some of your favorite things to do that make you feel great? Share and let us know! We are always looking for new ideas!

I hope you make the time to put yourself on the top of that priority list and take excellent care of yourself! Happy Holidays!
