(October 22, 2013- SPARKILL, NY) —St. Thomas Aquinas Collegehas appointed Assistant Professor ofGraphic Design- Nina Bellisio, as the new Azarian-McCullough Art Gallery Director announced Dr. Robert Murray, Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences.

Bellisio (New York City) earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Cornell University, a Master of Fine Arts from theUniversity of California, and a Certificate in Designing Interactive Multimedia Instruction from Columbia University.

Bellisio joined the St. Thomas Aquinas College community in 2011 as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design.  “I am thrilled to be working with the immensely talented STAC students as the new director of the Azarian-McCullough Art Gallery,” said Bellisio. “I hope to push them to share ideas they find frightening or uncomfortable so that they can survive, become enriched by it and realize their potential,” she added.

Prior to STAC, Bellisio taught art and design for 10 years at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco where she won the Dean's Award for Excellence in the Area of Teaching. While in San Francisco, she also worked as an e-learning producer at Edutopia, a division of the George Lucas Educational Foundation, where she helped share stories about inspirational public education. Bellisio also served as a teacher and mentor with First Exposures, a non-profit organization that pairs photographers with under-served Bay Area students.

As an educator, Bellisio would like to create an environment in which students feel comfortable expressing their ideas, while providing a rigorous structure that forces them to push those ideas further. She feels good curriculum is based on the practical application learning outcomes in an adaptable environment that allows students to think and grow as individuals.
