NEW WRITING PROGRAM DIRECTOR

(October 29, 2013-SPARKILL, NY)—St. Thomas Aquinas College has appointed Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Staci Shultz, as the new Writing Program Director announced Dr. Robert Murray, Dean of theSchool of Arts & Sciences.

Shultz (Tappan, NY), originally fromHighlands Ranch, Colorado, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of Arts in English literature from Boston College; and a Ph.D. in English and Education from the Joint Program in English & Education (JPEE) at the University of Michigan. In her scholarship, she examines students' extracurricular literacy practices and determines how they might inform composition pedagogy. The second edition of her textbook, Writing Places, was released by Pearson/Longman in 2012.

Shultz joined the St. Thomas Aquinas College community in August 2012 as an Assistant Professor of English. She teaches a range of English courses including: College English; Intermediate Composition; Writing About American Literature; American Autobiography; American Romanticism; and American Novel to 1900.

“I am thrilled to be directing the Writing Program at STAC and working with enthusiastic instructors and students” says Shultz.

Prior to being hired at STAC, Shultz served as the Graduate StudentMentor for the English Department as well as a Graduate Teaching Consultant for the Center for Research on Learning & Teaching (CRLT) at the University of Michigan. In addition to teaching and mentoring, Shultz served as the assistant editor for the Discourse and Social Processes series for Hampton Press, an independent scholarly publisher. She co-founded the Digital Media Studies Group (DMSG) at the University of Michigan which aims to serve the needs of students, staff, and faculty across the University whose work is grounded in digital culture.
