A 22-year-old Spring Valley man has been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury on charges he abused a 2-year-old girl in his care who was found to have a high level of alcohol in her system when she was treated at a hospital.
Widler Menendez Perez of 17 Washington St. is accused of second-degree assault, first-degree reckless engangerment, criminal obstruction of breathing/blood ciruclation and endangering the welfare of a child.
District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said that on Nov. 23 and 24 Perez was caring for the girl. During that time, Perez is accused of physically abusing the child, who suffered bites and bruises and had been strangled.
Zugibe said the child ingested alcohol while in Perez's care.
