5 Trucks Taken Off the Road by Police in Holiday Season Checkpoints

112 trucks inspected as part of high-visibility anti-terrorism effort on roads and at shopping, transit hubs.

The "See Something, Say Something" anti-terrorism informational effort conducted Thursday by police in Rockland led to five trucks being pulled off the road after safety inspections, according to police.

The holiday safety effort included police presence at traffic and shopping hubs including Palisades Center mall in West Nyack and the Spring Valley, Nanuet, Pearl River, Sloatsburg and Suffern train stations.

A truck inspection checkpoint on the New York State Thruway led to 112 inspections, with five trucks placed out of service for violations, 41 summonses and four arrests, according to South Nyack-Grand View Police Chief Robert VanCura. The arrests were for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and one was for unlawful possession of marijuana.

The program has become an annual holiday effort by police to encourage the public to be on the look-out for suspicious activity or items such as unattended packages in an effort to prevent crime and possible terrorist plots. Officials encourage the public to report suspicious activity to local police so it can be investigated.

The Following agencies participated in Thursday's effort:

Clarkstown PD

Spring Valley PD

Suffern PD

Ramapo PD

Stony Point PD

South Nyack-Grand View PD

Rockland County Sheriff’s Department

New York State Police – Troops T & F

Where was Piermont PD, it seems they don't participate in multi-jurisdictional efforts. Is the Chief down there the President of RC Chiefs Assn? Just sayin'.......

Close all roads and ban all trucks. The trucks should know better and the roads are equally responsible.
