UPDATE: Central Nyack Man Shot in Car; Police Capture Accused Gunman

Investigators believe the shooting was sparked by jealousy over a woman

Update, Monday, Aug. 13:

Clarkstown police report Jonathan Dunn was charged with attempted murder 2nd, assault 1st, and criminal possession of a weapon 4th. Dunn was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court before Judge Thorsen and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 cash.  Dunn's next court appearance is scheduled for August 15.

None of the victim's injuries appear to be life threatening.  At this time, the weapon has not been recovered and the investigation continues.

A 43-year-old Central Nyack man was shot and wounded early this morning as he sat in his car in Central Nyack, and a 31-year-old Central Nyack man was arrested this afternoon in connection with the shooting, according to Clarkstown police.

Investigators believe the shooting on West Broadway was prompted by jealousy over a woman known to both men.

Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan said Jonathan Dunn, 31, of Central Nyack, was located by town police after a search and he was arrested with assistance from Ramapo police at about 1:30 p.m. Sullivan said Dunn was in a car with three other people on Sherry Lane in Ramapo, and the car was pulled over by police.

Dunn was arrested without incident and the three others in the car with him were released, Sullivan said. Detectives are still searching for the large-caliber handgun that was used in the shooting.

Police learned of the shooting at about 4:50 a.m. when they were notified by Nyack Hospital that a gunshot wound victim was being treated.

Sullivan said the victim was sitting in his car early this morning on West Broadway when a man known to the victim approached the car. The victim was then shot through a car window and struck in the upper arm area.

The victim drove himself to the hospital. Sullivan said the victim's wounds do not appear to be life-threatening.

Dunn is accused of first-degree assault and is being held at Clarkstown Police Headquarters in New City. Sullivan said additional charges are likely to be filed against Dunn after consultation with the Rockland County District Attorney's Office.

Sullivan said investigators are unaware of any previous violent clashes involving the victim and Dunn.
