Clarkstown "Operation Slow Down" Targets New Streets

Police responding to residents’ complaints about speeders

Here's the list of the new “Operation Slow Down” streets. Traffic control effort will target the following streets:

  • Tamarac Ave
  • Congers Road
  • Convent Road
  • Sicketown Road
  • Parrott Road

Chief Sullivan said the department received a lot of complaints from residents about speeders on these side streets.  He explained patrol officers will travel the side streets and traffic officers with radar will cover the highways and major roadways in town.

About Operation Slow Down

Operation Slow Down, a public awareness and enforcement initiative against speeding and reckless drivers, was launched in February 2011. The purpose of the public safety program is to educate residents and raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and provide increased enforcement.  Through the year, different streets in Clarkstown have been selected for targeted enforcement, resulting in many drivers being ticketed.

CPD does nice work but the best on Old Haverstraw rd is Girls Gone Green. They are
replacing a very old and 90% blocked culvert under the road and thanks to them people are slowing down and choosing not to use Old Haverstraw Rd as a bypass of 303. I cant wait till next week when they shut the road down to replace the pipe,

Gotta love when a site tells me where the cops are. Thanks Patch!

I'm guessing that's part of the plan....you read this- then slow down... Kinda works with the name of the operation, no?

I just can't seem to keep it at 30 on N. Little Tor Road going towards Central Highway. That is one place I wish I had cruise control.

What happens if one of our elected officials got pulled over for speeding ? Would they get a ticket just like the rest of us....
Rob October 6, 2012 at 05:47 pm
Try going the speed limit on Rt 304....That road should be on the list.
Ken McQuade October 6, 2012 at 08:16 pm
Rob,
I agree 304 is a problem especially with out of staters with small kids everywhere trying to pick apples at Doc Davies. The town should lower the speed from 55 down to 30 like Bardonia. I see a close call everytime I pass.

On one hand I'm thankful to have a list of specific roads to avoid if my foot is feeling heavy, but on the other hand (or foot??) I think it may defeat the purpose for cops catching speeders if they know where NOT to go.
I've also found that curious deer have been a help to me in remembering to slow it down...Thankfully I've never hit one but I can list about 50 places in Rockland where I had some very close calls, and you betcha I slow it down each time I pass those same areas! LOL!

An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend

UW is by far the cheapest utility we have delivering clean water to my family for over 35 years. IRead More can live without cable which costs $160 a month but not without water at about $50 a month. Thank you Mr. Pointing.

Mr. Pointing, I appreciate your clearing this matter up. Too often the Water Company s cast as theRead More Villian by the Press and it is best to nip it in the bud with true facts.

I see your point isnt so much about what they are spending it on, but the process that they followedRead More to get to this point, but are they getting generators for the street lights on main street or the traffic signals? Seems like a project that is way out of control, who has gone to these community centers during storms anyway. All I have ever read about was people charging cell phones at the community centers. Good Job Pat.
