Clarkstown Police: Gunman In New Year's Morning Home Invasion In Nanuet Captured In Raid

Clarkstown detectives team up with Yonkers police, NYPD to arrest Bronx man at Yonkers hotel; one other gunman still being sought.

A Bronx man accused of being one of two gunmen in a New Year's morning home invasion robbery in Nanuet was captured in a raid this afternoon at a Yonkers motel, where Clarkstown police said they tracked him down with the assistance of police in Yonkers and New York City.

Duvar Ayers, 30, who police said is on parole from state prison after convictions for robbery and assault, was arrested at the Ramada in Yonkers. Clarkstown Det. Sgt Bernard Cummings said a second gunman from the Jan. 1 armed robbery on Albacon Road is being sought.

Cummings said an investigation of the robbery developed information linking Ayers to the incident, and then Clarkstown detectives were able to trace Ayers to Yonkers with the assistance of Yonkers and New York City police. Cummings said Yonkers police supplied their emergency services unit for a raid at the Ramada, where Ayers was captured.

Police said Ayers struggled with Yonkers officers, but was immediately taken into custody. The raid also recovered two handguns.

Ayers is being held by police in Yonkers pending arraignment Thursday in Yonkers City Court on charges including first-degree robbery, grand larceny, second-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping.

The home invasion robbery took place about 6:40 a.m. at an Albacon Road home where a New Year's eve party was continuing into the morning hours. Police said two men armed with handguns stormed the party and held partygoers at gunpoint.

Police said the two men stole cash, cell phones, a laptop comuter and DJ music mixing equipment.

This is just ridiculous. There are two aspects to our water. Supply and demand. United WaterRead More control our supply and have been instructed by the NY Public Service Commission to increase our supply. Our politicians control our demand. They could enact legislation to restrict demand tomorrow: Introduce water saving measures, restrict growth and introduce incentives and policies to conserve, but do they? No, of course not, they would rather showboat and slam UW, who are doing what the State has mandated. If our local politicians are serious on this issue, propose real legislation and water conservation measure, not just baseless rebuke of UW.
