D.A.: Woman Faked Insurance Claim for $7,400 Diamond Ring

14 carat white gold ring was never lost.

A 35-year-old Rockland County woman is accused of grand larceny for filing a false insurance claim on a diamond ring worth more than $7,000 that she claimed had been lost, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.

Jill Gessner of 23 Gessner Terrace, Pomona, is accused of filing a false claim with her mother's insurance carrier, saying a 14 carat, white gold ring had been lost. Zugibe said the ring was never lost and Gessner later admitted to filing the phony claim.

The insurance company paid $7,412.45 for the claim.

Gessner was arrested after an investigation by the Rockland County Special Investigations Unit. She was arraigned in Ramapo Town Court before Judge Alan Simon and released pending a hearing on Dec. 11.

Zugibe said Gessner faces penalties of up to seven years in prision if she if convicted on the charge of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
